Calling all Volunteers! posted 3:22PM 6.18.08
My name is Danielle and I am the Steward of The Jose Rizal off Leash Area. I have not reached out for volunteers on the mailing lists yet, but I figured since I currently have a project I need neighborhood support with, I should. With all the e-mailing that goes on this would be a great opportunity for us all to hang out and talk in person, all while we beautify our neighborhood.

4th of July is coming and the 12th Ave bridge in front of Amazon/ Pacific Medical Center is the best place to watch the fireworks. My neighbors and I cleared a patch of Jose Rizal Park in front of the Off Leash Area, with this intention. It was a huge job and there is still more we need to finish up. We are very lucky to have the parks department supporting our effort to clean up this area, so let’s take advantage of it.

I am hoping that you and your neighbors will come out 6/28 from 9:00-1:00 to help us finish the job. We will meet out in front of the Jose Rizal off Leash Area Kiosk. The cross streets are 12th Ave S and Golf Dr. S.

Please e-mail me directly if you can help moc.liamtoh|sugeelleinad#moc.liamtoh|sugeelleinad.

There is a job for everyone. We will be digging out Blackberry, picking up trash, and getting to know each other. Please bring a pair of gloves; if you let me know your coming I can make sure there are tools for you, if you don’t have gloves let me know and I will have a pair for you. If you have tools you like please feel free to bring them with you. Usually I am all for bringing dogs, but the area out in front is not fenced so this one time it might be better to leave them at home. If anyone wants to get together later in the afternoon and let our dogs play let me know!

Capitol Hill Community Council Election this Thursday. posted 12:25 PM 6.3.08
Help direct the future of Capitol Hill - Participate in the Capitol Hill Community Council elections THIS Thursday at the Capitol Hill Arts Center

Thursday, June 5 6:30pm-8:00pm @ the Capitol Hill Arts Center (upper level) 1621 12th Ave (at Pine St)

The Capitol Hill Community Council was formed way back in the '60s and died out after the then-President had to step down because of her growing personal responsibilities (starting a family, etc). The Community Council is newly revived and this election will set the precendence for the upcoming year. I highly recommend Capitol Hill residents and business owners to show up and vote. I enthusiastically endorse Justin Carden for President and will participate myself by helping find funding for this group. They will help us keep our identity from being taken over by money-driven developers and also address whatever concerns the community finds important (you can see lots of great discussion on their wiki.
